Ben O’Connell was the local champion of the 14-year-old boy’s free throw competition held on Jan. 11 in the Gate of Heaven Gymnasium and sponsored by the Dallas Knights of Columbus.

O’Connell continued his championships at the district, region and state competitions, becoming the only participant from the Dallas K of C Council’s Free Throw contests to achieve a state championship.

As the state champion, O’Connell’s overall record will be compared to other winners in the 14-year-old division from other states and provincial levels. The best overall record will be the International Champion. International Champions are determined by the scoring and other information from the state championships.

O’Connell’s score at the state level was 25 free throw baskets out of 25 and his combined competition score was 87 out of 95. International Champions will be notified by a letter from the Supreme Council.

O’Connell is the son of Tom and Trish O’Connell, of Dallas. His biggest supporters are his grandparents, Frank and Polly Michael, of Dallas; Marylyn O’Connell, of Forty Fort and John O’Connell, of Kingston.
