In an effort to promote the importance of having families license their dogs, the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture is conducting a poster contest for elementary students, “License Your Dog. It’s His Ticket Home” theme.

Licensing helps to: safeguard the community, minimize health risks and create a way to return the dog to his/her owner.

The contest is open to all children throughout the Commonwealth enrolled in grades one through six. The artwork has to reflect the theme of the “License Your Dog. It’s His Ticket Home” campaign. The theme and website address www.licenseyourdogPa.com must appear on the poster.

Guidelines: Posters must be created by the student and can utilize a combination of mediums and art elements, such as pencil, crayon, paint, acrylics and watercolor. (Digital images, collages not allowed.)

The works should be 11-inch by 17-inch poster size and the entries must be vertically oriented. Original art must be submitted. A completed poster submission form must be taped to the back of the poster.

Prizes will be awarded in three divisions: first and second grades, third and fourth grades and fifth and sixth grades. Each division winner poster will receive a $15 cash prize and be placed on a page in the 2014 Dog Law Enforcement Office Coloring Book. The Secretary of Agriculture and a State Dog Warden will present the grand prize winner with a $20 cash prize and unveil the winning poster at the student’s school.
