Karen Filipski, Throop, and Zac Lehman, Gouldsboro, captured the Blind Draw Mixed-Up Doubles tournament at the Scranton Tennis Club, defeating Bailey Dilts and Tony Malinauskas in the final. North Pocono HS star Lehman’s booming serve and powerful forehand complemented Filipski’s steady ground strokes to produce the victory. To reach the final, Filipski and Lehman knocked out Marion Reese and Joe Bailey, while Dilts and Malinauskas eliminated Nidia Marchese and Frank Marcos.

In the Men’s Doubles event Holy Cross phenom Rob Azzarelli and Dr Mordi Moritz took the title by barely edging Rich Mahon and Alex Chang based on their head-to-head results. Seth Kornfeld and Tim Aikman finished in third place, only one point behind the leaders in the round robin style competition. A total of 34 players participated in the tournament.

On July 11 to 13 the club will host its inaugural Lackawanna County Open Tennis Tournament. Entry blanks and information are available on the club’s website: www.scrantontennisclub.com.
