Neighbor of dead
girl is arrested
A neighbor has been arrested in the killing of a 9-year-old Ohio girl whose body was found in a trash bin near her home.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said 24-year-old Jerrod Metsker was arrested on a murder charge early Sunday afternoon.
Sheriff Travis Hutchinson wouldn’t say how Reann Murphy was killed or offer a motive. He described Metsker as a family friend and neighbor.
Reann was last seen Saturday night playing outdoors at the mobile home park where she lived in Smithville, about 30 miles southwest of Akron.
Deputies found her body in a trash bin at 1:30 a.m. Sunday, about five hours after she was reported missing.
It’s unclear whether Metsker yet has an attorney. His first court appearance is set for Monday morning.

stabbed in kidnap try
Assailants stabbed a Japanese diplomat stationed in Yemen’s capital Sunday when he fought back during a failed kidnapping attempt, officials said, the latest unrest in a country beset by al-Qaida militants.
The kidnappers attacked the diplomat not far from the Japanese Embassy in Sanaa, later fleeing with the man’s car, a security official said.
The official did not provide the diplomat’s name but said he was taken to hospital and that his injuries were not serious. The official spoke on condition of anonymity as he wasn’t authorized to speak publicly to journalists.
Japanese Foreign Ministry spokesman Masaru Sato confirmed that an embassy official was attacked by an unspecified number of armed robbers as he tried to get into his car.
Air raids kill 37
in Aleppo, Syria
Syrian government aircraft dropped barrels packed with explosives on opposition-held areas of the contested northern city of Aleppo on Sunday, leveling buildings, incinerating cars and killing at least 37 people including 16 children, activists said.
Aleppo has been a major front in the Syrian civil war since rebels launched an offensive on the city in mid-2012. Nearly a year and a half of fighting has destroyed much of the city, while also cutting it up into rebel-held and government-controlled areas.
On Sunday, government helicopters pounded the opposition neighborhoods of Haidariya, Ard al-Hamra, Sukhour, Marjeh and at least two others with barrel bombs, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said. Observatory director Rami Abdurrahman said Syrian air force jets were also flying sorties over the same districts.
