William G. Sauer, 97, formerly of Wilkes-Barre, died peacefully Wednesday morning at his daughter’s home in Lansing, Mich.
Born in Wilkes-Barre on June 17, 1910, he was a son of the late Peter and Theresa Rose (Klinges) Sauer Jr. He worked as a machinist at Foremost Ice Cream, formerly Woodlawn Ice Cream Company, for many years. Prior to retirement, he was employed at Wilkes College. Bill was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where he was an elder. He also volunteered for Deborah and Meals on Wheels.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Marion E. Clark, in 1990, as well as brothers, Clarence, Peter and Francis.
He will be greatly missed by his loving daughter Carol and her husband Jerry Williams; as well the grandchildren he adored: Mark (Corina) Williams, Brian (Heather) Williams, and Adam (Jaine) Williams; and great-grandchildren, Alicia, Jonathan, Sarah, Harth, Gage, Kennedy and Emerson, who were the light of his life. He is also survived by his brothers, Harry (Margaret) Sauer, Fred Sauer, Carl (Gloria) Sauer, all of Wilkes-Barre, Robert (Florence) Sauer, Delaware, Ralph (Margaret) Sauer, Philadelphia; and sisters, Madeline Muth, Philadelphia, and Ruth (Roger) Hardy, Medfield, Mass.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Kniffen O’Malley Funeral Home, 465 S. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, with the Rev. Micki Robinson officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
