MOOSIC — Andy Tracy slammed a two-run double in the fifth inning to propel Lehigh Valley to a 6-3 victory over Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the second game of an International League doubleheader on Saturday night at PNC Field.

The Yankees posted a 3-0 victory in the first game.

In the opener, it was Lehigh Valley pitcher J.A. Happ who came into the game with much of the fanfare, but Yankee starter Tim Redding stole the spotlight.

Redding (4-4) shut out the IronPigs over six innings. He gave up just four hits.

The 32-year-old veteran outdueled Happ (0-1), who began the season with Philadelphia. Redding retired the first nine batters he faced.

Redding didn’t give up a hit until Chris Aguila led off the fifth inning with an infield single.

Aguila was quickly erased on a great defensive play by Scranton/Wilkes-Barre center fielder Greg Golson.

Paul Hoover looped a ball to shallow center, but the hard-charging Golson made a shoe-string catch — then rifled a throw to first base to double up Aguila, who was almost to second base before turning back.

Happ, meanwhile, wasn’t quite as sharp. The hard-throwing left-hander surrendered three runs on six hits in five innings. He struck out seven.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre took a 2-0 lead in the third inning.

Chad Tracy led off with a line single to right field, and went to third on a double by Eduardo Nunez.

Juan Miranda followed with a single, which scored Tracy and moved Nunez to third. Jesus Montero hit a sacrifice fly to center field, bringing home Nunez.

The Yankees forged a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning on a solo home run by Montero, who hit a long shot over the right-field fence.

It was the seventh homer of the year for Montero, who had been rumored to be going to Seattle as part of a proposed trade for pitcher Cliff Lee.

However, the deal fell through on Friday and Lee wound up being dealt to Texas.

Lehigh Valley mounted a serious threat in the top of the seventh innng.

Redding gave up a leadoff double to Andy Tracy, and John Mayberry Jr. followed with an infield single.

Yankee closer Jonathan Albaladejo replaced Redding and struck out the next three batters to end the game. Albaladejo notched his 29th save, tops in the International League.

Notes: On Saturday, the Yankees signed former Chicago Cubs infielder Chad Tracy to a minor league contract.

Tracy, 30, appeared in 28 games this season for the Cubs. He batted .250 with two doubles and five RBI.

Tracy spend parts of six seasonswith the Arizona Diamondbacks, and has 78 major league home runs.

To make room for Tracy, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre sent outfielder Justin Christian to Double-A Trenton.
