INDIANAPOLIS — Andrew Smith snagged a double-double, scoring 22 points and pulling down 10 rebounds, as Butler cruised past Cleveland State 79-56 on Friday night.

Smith made 7 of 9 shots from the field and all eight of his free throw tries as the Bulldogs (11-5, 3-1 Horizon) bounced back from a Monday loss against Milwaukee, which was their first conference defeat since Feb. 18, 2009.

Butler got ahead quickly with a 13-0 run early in the first half and led by as many as 26 points late in the game.

Norris Cole grabbed a double-double for the Vikings (15-2, 4-1) with 10 rebounds and a game-high 26 points while Aaron Pogue chipped in with 11 points.

Canisius 62, Siena 61

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Gaby Belardo hit the game-winning jumper with 11 seconds left as Canisius overcame an early 10-point deficit to edge Siena.

Tomas Vazquez-Simmons blocked Ryan Rossiter’s shot with 2 seconds to go to preserve the win.

Alshwan Hymes scored 19 points on 6 3s and Julius Coles had 18 for the Golden Griffins, who won their first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game of the season. They also snapped their 10-game losing streak to the Saints, who have lost only four of their last 44 league games.

Creighton 72, Southern Illinois 66, OT

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Gregory Echenique scored 16 points to help Creighton to an overtime victory against Southern Illinois.

In his first start for the Bluejays, Echenique scored to start overtime and provide a 59-57 lead. He also had a team-high nine rebounds for Creighton (11-5, 3-1 Missouri Valley).

Kaleb Korver added 14 points, including four 3-pointers. Antoine Young scored 13 and Doug McDermott 12 for Creighton, which overcame two seven-point deficits in the second half.

Mamadou Seck had game highs of 18 points and 14 rebounds for the Salukis (8-7, 2-2).

The Salukis made five more baskets than the Bluejays and outrebounded them 42-32. But Creighton went 20 of 31 from the foul line to Southern Illinois’ 5 of 11.

Missouri State 65, Evansville 50

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Kyle Weems grabbed his third double-double of the season, scoring 17 points and pulling down 10 rebounds, in Missouri State’s victory over Evansville.

After leading just 29-28 at halftime, the Bears (12-3, 4-0 Missouri Valley) rallied to score the first nine points of the second half and eventually went up by 18 on the way to their sixth straight win.

Nathan Scheer added 14 points for the Bears while Jermaine Mallett scored 11.

Ned Cox led the Purple Aces (7-7, 1-3) with 10 points.

Evansville kept it close and even led briefly in the first half on 54.2 percent shooting from the field. But the Purple Aces dropped off after intermission, hitting just 36 percent of their tries.

Indiana State 70, Northern Iowa 45

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — Steve McWhorter scored 15 points as balanced Indiana State defeated Northern Iowa.

Jordan Printy added 11 points for the Sycamores (8-7, 3-1 Missouri Valley), whose 11-game home winning streak is their longest since a 22-gamer from 1999-2001. Jake Odum and Myles Walker scored 10 points apiece, and Odum had seven assists and three steals.
