An actress. A cop car. And Main Street in Pittston.
All the ingredients for a typical Wednesday afternoon in the Tomato Capital of the World.
German actress and producer Yvonne Maria Schaefer, with the help of Pistol City Film Office, came together Wednesday afternoon to shoot some scenes for Schaefer’s Image and Mood Film. The film will be shown internationally and will also be featured in a music video.
Geoffery Pizzuto, from the Pistol City Film Office, gave Schaefer access to Pittston through Main Street manager Rose Randazzo.
“I met Rose and Geoff a while back and we became friends,” Schafer said. “I though it was great because Pittston has all kinds of locations in the film. The airport it’s very good to reach”
In the scenes shot on Main Street Wednesday, Schaefer and crew were outside the Dime Bank building. Schaefer’s scene including her walking down the street in business attire and stopping to take a selfie on a Pittston City police cruiser. She then entered the police car and was eventually dropped off at the Dime Back building by Officer James Scott.
The team then went to Scranton to shoot some more scenes. There, Schaefer was shown on a police horse.
Schaefer described the scene as, “A business woman is on her way to the office. She sees this cop car and takes a selfie on it and (the cop) gives her a ride to work.”
Over the next several months, Schaefer expects to be back in Pittston working on a few more scenes with the help of Pistol City Film Office. Until then, she’ll be mostly editing back in Germany. But while she’s there, she’ll be also trying to expand German film students to exchanging in the United States, mainly in Pittston.
Shooting in New York City would have been a nightmare, Schaefer said. But that’s why she likes Pittston so much.
“It’s brilliant to the international film market,” she said. “It’s a chance to give exchange students a chance to shoot something in the USA.”
Schaefer was born and was raised in Frankfurt, Germany. Early on in her career she began as a model and actress. As a child, she studied ballet, while also acting in theater productions.
In the 1990s, while studying at the Goethe University in Frankfurt, Schaefer focused more intently on her acting career and studied drama. During her studies, she worked in numerous films, TV Series and plays. She also sang background vocals for various bands including Vanessa Mae and Joe Cocker.
Through her passion and participation in extreme sports, the Maxim Lifestyle Magazine voted Yvonne Maria Schaefer as the “Action Girl.”
After living part time in Asia and Spain, Schaefer moved to New York City in 2008 and founded the Film Production Company YMC Films. In the states, Schaefer has been successfully working as both an actress and a producer.
She can be seen starring in the successful film Forget Me Not , opposite Peter Greene. But she said her experience in Pittston was up there with some of her best in her film career.
“It’s amazing when filmmakers get that kind of support,” she said. “To support us the way they did is very special. We’ll certainly be back.”
