A former Mountain Top resident who still is facing sexual assault charges in Luzerne County will spend 45 to 95 years in a Michigan prison for sexually assaulting two girls in that state.
David Troy Zarn, 48, of Yorktown Road, Wright Township, was sentenced in Detroit on Tuesday by Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Qiana Denise Lillard, according to online court records from Michigan.
Zarn was charged by Wayne County, Michigan, authorities in July 2013, several months after he was arrested by Wright Township police and Luzerne County detectives on similar offenses that allegedly took place in Mountain Top.
Zarn was arrested by local authorities in October 2012, after two girls, then 16 and 14, claimed he forced them into performing lewd sex acts.
Zarn moved from Detroit to Luzerne County, first residing in the Back Mountain in 2006 then relocating to Mountain Top in 2010.
The mother of the elder teen’s boyfriend contacted authorities in October 2012 after learning of text messages the girl had sent to her son about allegedly being assaulted by Zarn, according to the criminal complaint.
Zarn was charged with three counts each of aggravated indecent assault and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse. The case remains open in Luzerne County Court.
He was convicted by a Michigan jury last month of three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a person under 13, and one count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a person under 13.
An additional first-degree count was dismissed.
According to Michigan court records, Zarn’s sentence consists of 30 to 70 years for the first three counts, to be followed by 15 to 25 years on the fourth count.
