July is National Ice Cream Month and according to Wyoming/Lackawanna County Dairy Princess Emma Loch, the snack can actually be beneficial to your health.
“Most will say that ice cream isn’t good for you that it’s just a fattening snack,” Loch said. “Well actually, when eaten in moderation it helps you get three of the nine essential nutrients that your body needs.”
Loch added, “Ice cream contains calcium to help build strong bones, protein to help repair and build tissue such as hair and nails. And last but not least it contains vitamin A, vitamin B2 and vitamin B12.Vitamin A will help with healthy skin, bone metabolism, a better functioning immune system and will allow your eyes to function in low-light and for colored vision. Both vitamin B2 and vitamin B12 help your body with metabolism breaking down fats, protein, and carbohydrates.”
