NOXEN TWP. - Authorities Sunday said five people were killed in a helicopter crash overnight near Noxen in Wyoming County.

The wreckage of the Robinson 66 helicopter was found at 1:50 p.m. in a heavily wooded area, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

Emergency response vehicles and personnel traveled an access road on the Mehoopany Wind Farm to the top of South Mountain to get to the crash site.

The FAA said the helicopter had been en route from the Tri Cities Airport in Endicott, N.Y. to Jake Arner Memorial Airport, Lehighton. An alert notice was issued after the aircraft lost radar and communication contact Saturday night. Five people were on board.

The FAA is investigating. The National Transportation Safety Board is en route and will lead the accident investigation.
