Calvin Girven
   
June 9, 1995
    Calvin L. Girven, 71, of Sugar Run, died Friday at homeHe was born Sept. 7,
1923 on the family farm in Hollenback and was the son of the late Floyd and
Agnes Steele Girven.
   
He was a 1942 graduate of Wyalusing High School.
   
He and his wife, the former Harriet Ely of Grant Hill, celebrated their
49th wedding anniversary on June 8.
   
He was a farmer all of his life, and he also worked at the former
Harrington & Co. in Dushore, Welles Mill Co. of Wyalusing, and Proctor ~and
Gamble in Mehoopany, from which he retired in 1985 after 17 years of service.
   
He was a member of the Wilmot Fire Company and Wyalusing Lodge No. 618
F&AM.
   
Surviving in addition to his wife are sons, David C., N’Djamena, Chad,
Africa; Kevin L., Randy T. and Timothy J., all of Sugar Run; daughters, Dawn
Snyder, Wyalusing; Kathy Hansel, New Egypt, N.J.; brother, Laymon, Muncy;
sisters, Anna Barnhart, Sugar Run; Marie Santee, Falls; Lelia Custer,
Tunkhannock; 13 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; two
great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
   
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Haoua, in 1991; brothers,
Rush, in 1989; Paul, in 1964; Myron, in 1975; sister, Aletha Stewart, in 1971.
   
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday from the P. Dean Homer Funeral
Home, 1 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing.
   
Interment will be in Wyalusing Cemetery.
   
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday.
