    John F. Melvin, 66, of Pittston, died Monday in the Hospice Unit of the
   
Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Wilkes-BarreBorn on April 2,
1929, he was the son of the late Thomas J. and Mary Gordon Melvin.
   
He attended Pittston Township schools and was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.
   
He was employed for many years at Wyoming Sand & Stone, Falls.
   
He was preceded in death by his son, John Jr., and a brother, Thomas.
   
Surviving are his wife, Dolores; a son, Ronald, Pittston; daughters,
Beverly Cannarella and Mary Narvid, both of Pittston; Patricia McCabe,
Wilkes-Barre; Sharon Chase, Old Forge; Dolores Nowakowski, Inkerman section of
Jenkins Township; 12 grandchildren; a sister, Jean Granteed, Hughestown;
several nieces and nephews.
   
Funeral services will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Thursday from Adonizio
Funeral Home, William Street, Pittston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10
a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church, William Street, Pittston.
   
Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
   
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.
