WILKES-BARRE — U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs Jesse Brown has
redistributed the Department of Veterans Affairs health care funds that will
mean an increase to the region. Instead of a projected $15 million loss, the
five-state VA region, that includes the local medical center, will see a $1
million increase in fiscal year 1997.
It’s unclear how much of the $1 million will end up at the local facility.
U.S. Rep. Paul Kanjorski, D-Nanticoke, who along with the state’s two
senators, Republicans Arlen Specter and Rick Santorum, had lobbied federal
officials on behalf of the local hospital, hailed the decision.
