SCOTT TWP. — A scuffle between a group of Red Rock Job Corps Center
students and local teenagers Saturday has sparked an investigation by police
and center security personnel.

Township police officer Russell Lawton said that about 10 job corps
students and five local youths got into an altercation at 10:30 p.m. Saturday
in the parking lot of Skatetown roller skating rink in Columbia County.
A 16-year-old township youth received cuts and bruises from being kicked
and punched in the fight, Lawton said. The boy was not admitted to the
hospital.

“We have a zero tolerance toward drug use and violence,” said Theresa
Dowling, a center spokeswoman. “Anyone who violated this policy is removed
from the program.”

Lawton and Dowling are investigating the incident. Criminal charges could
be filed, Lawton said, but he thinks this was “kids being kids” and is an
isolated incident.

The Red Rock Job Corps Center is a federally sponsored program that offers
vocational training to disadvantaged youths ages 16 to 24. More than 300 young
adults study at the center near the entrance to Lake Jean in Sullivan County.
The students are from Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, Delaware and
Pennsylvania.

A bus with about 40 students and two chaperons traveled to the skating rink
Saturday night as part of a scheduled trip, Dowling said.

“If we have a problem, then we are going to take care of it,” Dowling said.
