CHARLES MAKAREWICZ SR.
   
Sept. 28, 1998
    Charles Stanley Makarewicz Sr. of Charles Street, Luzerne, died Monday at
Hospice Community Care Unit of Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.
   
Born in Edwardsville, he was a son of the late William and Stella Gill
Makarewicz.
   
A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Army in the
Asiatic-Pacific Theater.
   
Prior to retiring, he was employed out of Carpenters Union 514 in Plains
Township.
   
He was a member of St. Ann’s Church, Luzerne; the Wyoming Monument War
Veterans Association Post 396 of Wyoming; and the American Legion.
   
He was preceded in death by brothers, Neener Makarewicz and Michael
Makarewicz; and a sister, Sophie Makarewicz.
   
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, the former Helen Aleknavich; a
daughter, Barbara McDonald, Edwardsville; a son, Charles Jr., Wyoming; seven
grandchildren; a great-grandchild; sisters, Nesta Wyberacki, Wyoming, and
Stella Lech, Shickshinny; a brother, the Rev. Sylvester Makarewicz of
Wisconsin; nieces and nephews.
   
Funeral services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Friday from the Betz-Jastremski
Funeral Home, 568 Bennett St., Luzerne, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9
a.m. in St. Ann’s Church, Luzerne.
   
Interment will be in St. John Cemetery, Dallas.
