Wilkes-Barre’s Cherry Blossom Festival was, alas, a washout, but West Pittston had better luck on Saturday and Sunday. Raindrops did fall throughout the weekend, but enough sun was present to allow the crowds to enjoy a parade, a pageant, pony rides, treasure hunting and goodies and snacks galore at the annual event along Susquehanna Avenue.

1. Alexis Mattioli, 2, of Shavertown enjoys a pony ride with her grandfather Mark Royer at her side. In the middle is James Heller of Sweet Valley.

2. John Getzie and son Max, 3, of West Pittston ponder a balloon.

3. John Janczewski, left, and Gary Slusser, both of West Pittston, have a chat.

4. Louis and Lisa Fisher of Exeter look over the candy for sale.

5. Simon Pollard, 1 1/2, of West Pittston, takes a look at the kids section.

6. From left: Shannon, Amanda and Jackie Kotch did some shopping.

7. Scott Skesavage of West Pittston, Raymond Cannell of Exeter and Mary K. Ash of Exeter take on the arduous task of catering to the hungry masses.

8. John Maslar of Pittston pets Fredo, the furry friend Nancy Paradise of West Pittston brought with her to the festival. In back is Darlena Maslar.
