Rugged forward Christiaan Minella got off to a hot start for the Wheeling Nailers in the season opener last weekend. The rugged winger scored two goals and dropped the gloves as the Nailers defeated Elmira 3-2.

Goaltender Mike Condon made 40 saves to earn his first win as a Nailer.

Forward Carter Rowney, who spent time this year in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s training camp, has two assists in two games for Wheeling. Zack Torquato also has two points — a goal and an assist, on the season.

Local product Patrick McGrath appeared in one game so far for Wheeling, going scoreless with no penalty minutes. During three preseason games with the Nailers, McGrath totalled 31 penalty minutes.
