Matt McGloin will be back in Beaver Stadium this weekend.
The Oakland Raiders quarterback and Penn State and West Scranton alum will be in the booth providing color commentary for Saturday’s Blue-White Game.
Penn State’s annual spring game will be broadcast live at 4 p.m. on Big Ten Network. McGloin will be paired with play-by-play man Scott Graham. Replays of the game will run on BTN on Sunday at midnight and 10 p.m., Monday at 11:30 p.m. and Tuesday at 4 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
BTN typically reaches out to recent former players for spring game coverage, with names like linebacker Michael Mauti previously providing color during the scrimmage.
McGloin broke nine school records as a senior as the full-time starter and won the Burlsworth Trophy as the nation’s top player who began his career as a walk-on. He signed a free-agent contract with Oakland and started several games for the Raiders as a rookie in 2013.
Parking and admission for the game will be free with lots opening at 8 a.m. Gates A and B at the stadium will open at 1 p.m. ahead of the player autograph session at 1:15 p.m.
Rutgers in primetime
Penn State’s first kickoff for 2015 has been set. Sort of.
BTN released its primetime schedule on Monday afternoon and announced that the Nittany Lions’ Sept. 19 home game against Rutgers will be a night game.
No official kick time for the contest has been set.
The Lions edged the Scarlet Knights in their inaugural Big Ten game last September in Piscataway.
Primary Big Ten rightsholder Disney — which owns ABC and ESPN — has not announced any primetime games yet. Penn State and Ohio State have played under the lights for the last several years. This year’s game is scheduled for Oct. 17 in Columbus.
The Lions will host five straight home games from Sept. 12-Oct. 10 against Buffalo, Rutgers, San Diego State, Army and Indiana. Big Ten foes Illinois and Michigan will visit on Oct. 31 and Nov. 21, respectively.
