PARADISE — Mount Airy Casino Resort is seeking couples who were married, honeymooned or vacationed at the former Mount Airy Lodge as it prepares to launch “Celebrate Amore” weekend June 13 and 14 to help commemorate the days of the Poconos’ heart-shaped tubs and candlelit dinners. The weekend — which will feature the return of romance to the Poconos — will also include an opportunity for guests to renew their wedding vows, a public wedding reception in the casino’s nightclub, a bridal expo, and a Sunday champagne brunch.
The new Mount Airy Casino Resort opened in November 2007 and is located at the exact site of the former Mount Airy Lodge, which closed in the 1990s and was demolished prior to the construction of the new destination resort. Event organizers are asking couples who honeymooned or vacationed at the resort in years past to submit pictures, postcards or any other memorabilia they may have for a lobby display to be exhibited that weekend.
“We’ve already had a few couples who honeymooned at Mount Airy decades ago send us their photo albums because they were so excited the resort had come back to life,” explained Mount Airy advertising manager Debbie Ropars. “When we saw the pictures and vintage postcards, we immediately realized we had to share them with our current patrons so they could experience the nostalgia and magic of Mount Airy Casino Resort.”
The resort will also host a vow renewal ceremony at the Event Center June 13 at 2 p.m. with a minister performing the vows for gathered couples free of charge. A certificate for the “Mount Airy Honeymoon Club” will be given to each couple. Afterwards, a wedding reception will be held in Gypsies Nightclub and Lounge from 5 to 8 p.m. The reception, which is open to the public, will include hors d’oeuvres, music and a cash bar.
Also that weekend, a Bridal Expo will take place in the casino resort’s main lobby featuring bridal vendors ranging from ice sculpture artists to tuxedo rentals, wedding cake bakeries to gown retailers.
Mount Airy will also be offering special resort packages that weekend as well as prize giveaways and a champagne Sunday brunch. For more information or to make reservations, call 1-877-682-4791 or visit www.mountairycasino.com.
