King’s Aquatics Swimming Lesson Program will begin this fall in the Scandlon Gymnasium pool. Lessons will be offered Monday and Wednesday nights, Oct. 21-Nov. 13. There will be two sessions: 6-6:35 p.m. and 6:40-7:15 p.m. Cost is $60 per child and includes seven 35-minute lessons. Wyoming Seminary Wrestling Clinic will be held on Sunday, Oct. 27. The clinic is open to all area wrestlers of all ages. The clinic will run from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Carpenter Athletic Center at Wyoming Seminary. Athletes will meet and learn from Kyle Drake, four-time NCAA champion at Cornell. Drake is the only wrestler ever to win four titles in four different weight classes. Tickets are $50 in advance and $60 at the door. Wyoming Valley CYC Pee Wee Basketball Clinic will be held Oct. 8-30 for children ages 4-7. The clinic is slated for Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00-5:45 p.m. and/or 5:45-6:30 p.m. Please call 570-823-6121 ext. 280.

GAR Memorial High School Football Booster Club will meet Thursday, Oct. 3 at 5 p.m. in the Choral Room. New members are welcome.


Heights Packers Football and Cheerleading Youth Organization will be having a booster club meeting on Oct. 8 at 8 p.m. at Stanton Lanes. Everyone is encouraged and welcome to attend please come to discuss or listen to all the new changes and exciting events for the upcoming season. Nanticoke Girls Varsity Soccer Booster Club will meet Thursday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. at Ruby Pizza in the Hanover section of Nanticoke. All interested parties are invited to attend.

REGISTRATIONS/TRYOUTS


Hanover Area Youth Basketball Signups for boys and girls grades 3-6 will be held Oct. 6 and Oct. 13 from 6- 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Elementary. Wyoming Area Elementary Wrestling will have sign-ups for kids in kindergarten through sixth grade outside the gym at the secondary center Wednesday, Oct. 2, Thursday, Oct. 10 and Wednesday, Oct. 16. Wrestlers must be a resident of the Wyoming Area school district. Wrestlers must also provide a copy of their birth certificate and a proof of residency.


Wyoming Valley West Girls Junior High Basketball League is accepting registrations for seventh and eighth grade divisions. UPCOMING EVENTS/OTHER


Adult Flag Football Tournament will be held Sunday, Oct. 13 at Noxen Field. The team entry fee for the 12-man roster, eight-man team tournament is $120. Flag belts provided. Benjamin August Memorial 3-Mile Run and Walk will be held Sunday, Oct. 20 at 10:30 a.m. The event is organized by the Jewish Community Alliance of Northeastern PA’s Physical Education Department and sponsored by Sandy Arnold Rifkin in memory of Sandy’s father, Benjamin August. The course will be through South Wilkes-Barre with the start at Northampton Street and finish on the River Commons. Runners and walkers registration fee before Oct. 7 is $17. the fee is $20 after Oct. 7 or on race day. Preregistration race packets may be picked up starting at 9:15 a.m. Race day registration will be held at the JCC beginning at 9:15 a.m. Registration closes 10 minutes prior to the race start. Nanticoke Area Basketball Alumni Golf Classic will be at the Wilkes-Barre Municipal Golf Course Saturday, Oct. 5. The format is captain and crew and the tournament starts at 9 a.m. There will be prizes awarded for flight winners along with longest drive and closest-to-the-pin awards. A post-tournament outing will follow golf at West Side Park in Nanticoke. Hole sponsorships are also available for those supporting Nanticoke boys’ and girls’ basketball programs from junior high through varsity. Plains Sports Hall of Fame will induct four new members Sunday, Oct. 20. Inductees include Richard J. Binker, James Blazek, Thomas Buckler, Jr. and Thomas Buckler, Sr. Tickets are available from the Hall of Fame Board president, Clarence Ozgo, or other board members including Francis Gavin, John Kelly, Joe Kropiewnicki, Dom Pape, Gary Vanderburg or Dan Wallace. The dinner and induction ceremony will be at the Plains American Legion.


Shavertown United Methodist Church 7th Annual Golf Tournament will be held at the Mill Race Golf and Camping Resort in Benton Saturday, Oct. 5. Registration starts at 9 a.m. and the tournament begins at 10 a.m. Entry fee is $80, which includes green fees, carts, free use of driving range with unlimited balls, snacks, barbecue chicken dinner following the tournament, souvenirs and prizes. Hole sponsorships are available for $80, which gives sponsors a sign at the tee box and a listing in the program. To donate prizes for the golfers, call the church. Swoyersville Little League will be hosting a Night Out at the Susquehanna Brewing Company (SBC) in Pittston from 6-8 p.m. on Oct. 18. With a $25 donation, the guest will receive beverages compliments of SBC, catered food from the Tipsy Turtle in Swoyersville, and live entertainment. This is a 21 and over event.
