King’s Aquatics Swimming Lesson Program will begin this fall in the Scandlon Gymnasium pool. Lessons will be offered Monday and Wednesday nights, Oct. 21-Nov. 13. There will be two sessions: 6-6:35 p.m. and 6:40-7:15 p.m. Cost is $60 per child and includes seven 35-minute lessons. Marywood’s High School Girls Soccer ID Clinic will take place Sunday, Oct. 20 at the Pacers Turf Field. Walk-ins welcome. Clinic starts at noon with registration at 11:45 a.m. T-shirts provided. Hanover Area Boys Basketball Booster Club will be having a meeting on Monday, Oct. 21. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Major Leagues in Sugar Notch.

Hanover Area Quarterback Club will hold a meeting, Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 6 p.m. at the Football Stadium.

South Wilkes-Barre Little League will have its monthly meeting Sunday, Oct. 20, at 6 p.m. at the Riverside Café on Old River Road in Wilkes-Barre. This meeting will be the nomination of officers for the upcoming season. All are welcome to attend.

WVC Girls Soccer Coaches All-Star & All-State Selections Meeting will be held Sunday Oct. 20 at WVW high school in Plymouth at 5 p.m. A coach or team representative must be present.


Nanticoke Area School District Winter Sports physical exams will be held Saturday, Oct. 19, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Dr. Olenginski’s office, 4 E. Main St. in Nanticoke. Any student-athlete who did not obtain a physical for fall sports is required to have one prior to the winter season. Students who have already had their physical only need to complete the re-certification form to be eligible to participate. Those who have not should complete the CIPPE form prior to the physical exam. No one will be permitted to practice without the required forms. The forms are available online at or at the athletic office.

JCC and the Wilkes-Barre Family YMCA will have draft/tryouts for the Northampton Basketball League Sunday, Oct. 27, at the YMCA. The season will begin Sunday, Nov. 17. The league is open to children ages 5-13. Age groups are 5-7(clinic), 8-10(junior varsity) and 11-13 years(varsity). Draft/Tryout times are 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. for ages 8-10 and 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. for ages 11-13. The cost is $35 for clinics, $65 for JV/V and $50 for all siblings. Wyoming Valley West Girls Junior High Basketball League is accepting registrations for seventh and eighth grade divisions. Benjamin August Memorial 3-Mile Run and Walk will be held Sunday, Oct. 20 at 10:30 a.m. The event is organized by the Jewish Community Alliance of Northeastern PA’s Physical Education Department and sponsored by Sandy Arnold Rifkin in memory of Sandy’s father, Benjamin August. The course will be through South Wilkes-Barre with the start at Northampton Street and finish on the River Commons. Runners and walkers registration fee before Oct. 7 is $17. the fee is $20 after Oct. 7 or on race day. Preregistration race packets may be picked up starting at 9:15 a.m. Race day registration will be held at the JCC beginning at 9:15 a.m. Registration closes 10 minutes prior to the race start. Crestwood Boys Basketball Booster Club will sponsor a Bingo Bonanza Saturday, Oct. 19, at the Mountain Top Hose Fire Hall. Doors open at 6 p.m. Games will begin at 7 p.m.

Dallas Football will hold its annual bonfire Oct. 29 from 6-9 p.m. with a rain date of Oct. 30. It will be held at the High School parking area with food venders will be set up to sell food, hot chocolate, coffee sweets and etc to be purchased. Public is welcome.

Hapkido Taekwondo Institute Black Belt and Parents Club will be sponsoring The Kick’in it for Joe Martial Arts tournament Oct. 19 at the Marts Gymnasium, Wilkes University. Joe Frushon is a student of the school and is battling bone cancer. All funds will go to help pay his medical bills. The tournament is open to all styles of Martial Arts. Lady Hawks Basketball Booster Club will sponsor a craft fair Sunday, Oct. 27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hanover Area Jr/Sr High School. Plains Sports Hall of Fame will induct four new members Sunday, Oct. 20. Inductees include Richard J. Binker, James Blazek, Thomas Buckler, Jr. and Thomas Buckler, Sr. Tickets are available from the Hall of Fame Board president, Clarence Ozgo, or other board members including Francis Gavin, John Kelly, Joe Kropiewnicki, Dom Pape, Gary Vanderburg or Dan Wallace. The dinner and induction ceremony will be at the Plains American Legion.

Wyoming Area Ice Hockey Parents will host Meet the Ice Warriors on Sunday Oct. 20, an optional mass will be celebrated at St. Barbara’s Parish in Exeter at 10:30 am to bless players and hockey articles. Varsity, JV and Middle School players attending church report by 10:15 a.m. Meet the Warriors will immediately follow mass at the Secondary Center multipupose room at noon.
