Juniors Meredith Mesaris (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) and Justin Klingman (Clarks Summit/Abington Heights) had impressive weeks on the basketball court, helping their teams go undefeated and win titles in the process. As a result, the pair has been named co-Athletes of the Week at The University of Scranton.
Klingman averaged 15.7 points while helping the Royals post a trio of victories, including sharing the title in the Cross-County Challenge.
Klingman started his week by scoring 13 points in a 94-77 win over Keystone on Tuesday, Dec. 31, at the Lackawanna College Student Union. He finished 5-for-8 from the field and added three assists and two steals.
In Friday’s opening-night action in the Cross-County Challenge in the Long Center, Klingman set a career-high with 19 points as the Royals held off King’s, 87-83. He made three of four from 3-point range and also had four rebounds. A day later, he added 15 points on 5-for-8 from 3-point range and added three assists, two steals and two rebounds in an 83-68 win over Wilkes as the Royals shared the title with Marywood, which also went 2-0 in the event.
This is the first time in his career that Klingman has been named Athlete of the Week.
The Royals are back in action on Saturday, Jan. 11, when they host Landmark Conference rival Juniata College at 2 p.m. in the Long Center.
