Keystone College’s men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams set nine new school records and tied three others on Saturday at the Deschriver Invitational hosted by East Stroudsburg University. The Giants set five individual program marks, tied three, and established three new relay marks on the day.
On the men’s side, Justin Clarke won the 5000 meter run by shattering his own school record, clocking in at 15:25.07, more than 13 seconds faster than the runner-up finisher. Sharif Jarvis added a 10th place finish in the event. Clarke also set a new school record in the 3000 meter run after finishing in 8:55.82 to place third overall.
Dushaun Blackwood placed second in the 55 meter dash and tied a school record with a time of 6.70 seconds. Blackwood also finished second in the 200 meter dash after crossing the finish line in 23.09 seconds. In the 55 meter hurdles, Paris Gavin ran a time of 8.53 seconds to tie a school record to finish 11th in the race.
Jeremy Feland was fourth overall in the long jump with a leap of 19’ 11.75” and the freshman went on to place fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 43’ 2.25”. Jon Mayes placed seventh in the weight throw competition with a toss of 46’ 10.75” and Mario Careccia also finished seventh in the pole vault. Robert Aryeequaye added an eighth place result in the high jump competition, one spot ahead of Feland.
Abdul Hamid clocked a time of 2:04.59 in the 800 meter run to place seventh in the event while Jake King’s mark of 2:52.92 in the 1000 meter run placed him eighth in the field.
Keystone’s 4x200 meter relay team of Kyle Laniewski, Blackwood, Dan McSurdy, and Maleik Torres posted a new school record of 1:33.72 to bring home a third place result. The Giants’ 4x400 meter relay team of Hamid, Jeremy Flohr, David Strum, and Christian English placed sixth after recording a time of 3:35.47.
In women’s competition, Aneisha Williams broke her own school record in the triple jump with a leap of 35’ .25” to finish second in the event. Jessica Fusco ran a time of 9.36 seconds in the 55 meter hurdles to set a new program-best time while placing ninth in the field. Saviana Jocelyn’s time of 7.57 seconds in the 55 meter dash tied a school record that has stood since 2008 and placed the junior seventh in the race. Jocelyn also brought home a third place finish in the 200 meter dash after crossing the stripe in 27.20 seconds
Jada Phillips set a new school record in the women’s weight throw with a throw of 38’ 9.75” to best her own mark set in Keystone’s last meet while placing sixth overall in the event. KateLynn Strickler added a ninth place result in the competition. Phillips also placed second in the shot put with a mark of 41’ 4.25”.
For the second meet in a row, Shannon Vairo shattered a personal record in the 3000 meter run after crossing the finish line in 11:11.64, nearly 22 seconds off her former personal best. Vairo, who placed ninth in the 3000 meter run, also added a fifth place performance in the 5000 meter run after finishing with a time of 19:12.41. India Stafford would go on to add a 10th place finish in the high jump competition.
Keystone’s 4x200 meter relay team of Nicole Delavan, Jocelyn, Kirsten Hollister, and Raisha Piper brought home a third place finish after clocking in a new program-best time of 1:48.88. The Giants’ 4x400 meter relay squad of Hollister, Piper, Delevan, and Stephanie Nelson also established a new program record after clocking in at 4:23.56 to finish sixth in the field.
Keystone will next compete at the NYC Armory Meet on Friday, Feb. 14 in New York City.
