It was about 15 months ago that the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre baseball team unveiled its RailRiders moniker.

Some fans thought the name that was going to be selected was Trolley Frogs.

Now, those fans can see what it would’ve been like if Trolley Frogs was selected as the new team name in November 2012.

For one night this season, the RailRiders will turn into the Trolley Frogs, with the team wearing special uniforms on “What if Night” at PNC Field on Aug. 8. That was one of the several promotions that was announced Tuesday as the 2014 promotional schedule was released.

Those jerseys will be one of three themed jersey worn by the team this coming season. SWB will also have a special jersey to wear on April 18 for Outdoors Night when Mountain Man from Duck Dynasty makes an appearance and the RailRiders will wear a special matching jersey. In June, the team will don a special 25th anniversary jersey that combines all three eras of baseball in the area from the Red Barons, Yankees and RailRiders.

“Our first season at PNC Field was great,” RailRiders president and general manager Rob Crain said in a statement. “But that was truly just the start. We are committed to enhancing our fans’ experiences every year. And we think this promotional schedule loaded with giveaways will be a big step toward just that.”

Joining Outdoors Night and What if Night as new theme night added to the slate are Almost Halfway to Halloween Night on April 25, Anti-bullying Awareness Day on May 7, a Salute to 1989 on June 3, Red Barons night on June 5, and Wizard of Oz Night on Aug. 20.

After being a hit in 2013, popular theme nights returning to the schedule in 2014 are Star Wars Night (May 24) and Princess and Pirate Night (July 11).

There’s also plenty of giveaways as a franchise-record 25 events will be held to celebrate the 25th season of Triple-A baseball for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre team.

Opening Day at PNC Field is April 10 and that starts the giveaways with a yard sign. A magnet schedule for the first 5,000 fans is offered the very next night.

Other notable giveaways on the schedule are a Jon Zuber Red Barons Statue (April 19), Dave Miley SWB Yankees Statue (June 7), Derek Jeter poster (June 21), Derek Jeter RailRiders statue (July 5) and a media bobblehead giveaway on Aug. 2 when a local media personality will be voted on by the fans and then immortalized as a statue giveaway.

All the daily staples return as well with dollar hot dogs on Mondays, t-shirt giveaways on Tuesdays, kids eat free on Wednesdays, thirsty Thursdays with $1 Budweiser and Pepsi products for two hours after the gates open, fireworks on Fridays, giveaways on Saturdays, and Family FunDay on Sundays.
