U.S. District Court Judge Robert D. Mariani sentenced Francis Vasquez-Familia, 33, to six years, eight months in prison followed by five years of supervised probation for possession with intent to distribute in excess of 500 grams of methamphetamine.

According to Acting U.S. Attorney Bruce D. Brandler, Vasquez-Familia was involved in distributing illegal drugs in the Hazleton area.

After a controlled drug buy, Vasquez-Familia was stopped resulting in the seizure of 1,554 grams of methamphetamine and 530 grams of heroin, equal to 29,000 individual heroin packets, Brandler stated.

The case was investigated by the state police and the federal Drug Enforcement Administration.
