HANOVER TWP. – Interstate 81 southbound from the Nanticoke exit to the Nuangola exit was closed for nearly two hours Wednesday for cleanup of about 100 gallons of diesel fuel from two tractor-trailers that crashed.
State police at Wyoming said John F. Monterosso, of Tamaqua, operating a Freightliner tractor-trailer, was traveling south when he drifted into the berm and struck a disabled Volvo tractor-trailer, operated by William Ray, of Front Royal, Va., at about 11:30 a.m.
Ray’s tractor-trailer was being repaired on the side of the interstate by mechanic Robert Zbierski, of Red’s Towing. Zbierski was not injured when he was thrown from the tractor, state police said.
State police said Monterosso and Ray were transported to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.
