Abington Heights defeated Coughlin, 7-2, in a District 2 Class AAA baseball quarterfinal Tuesday.

Tyler Ksiazek allowed two runs on seven hits to pick up the victory. He struck out nine and walked three.

“He went right at their batters,” Abington Heights head coach Bill Zalewski said, “and his curve ball was sharp, especially later in the game. He did a nice job of keeping them off balance.”

Ksiazek also had three hits, an RBI, and a run scored. Second baseman Jimmy Fayocavitz contributed two hits, an RBI, and three runs scored. First baseman Justin Porpiglia added a key hit and left fielder Eric Salerno had two RBI’s.

“They threw (Dave) Marriggi and he’s a very, very good pitcher,” Zalewski said. “We just battled him and made him throw a lot of pitches. We tried to put the ball in play and put pressure on their defense, and we were able to do that today.”

Fourth-seeded Abington Heights (11-4) is scheduled to travel to play top-seed Valley View in a semifinal matchup Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
