NANTICOKE — Deal with him at your own risk.

It seems pitching to slugger Dylan Szychowski can be extremely dangerous to Nanticoke’s Little League opponents.

Szychowski crushed a grand slam Sunday, then later walloped a second homer to lead Nanticoke past Pittston City 17-1 in a District 16 Little League Major Baseball game stopped after four innings by the 10-run rule at the Nanticoke Little League field.

“Our whole team’s hitting the ball,” said Szychowski, who finished with six RBI for his 11-12 team. “I happened to hit the ball over the fence. I just got lucky, I guess.”

Luck had little to do with Szychowski’s success, his All-Star coach said.

“He’s hit a lot of them,” Nanticoke coach Pat Heffron said of Szychowski’s longballs. “This kid is the most humble kid you can imagine. Every ground ball he hits in practice, he runs 100 percent. The other kids see that. What an example. Having him as a team leader means so much. He’s an A-plus kid.”

Nanticoke had a few other top-notch performances while improving to 2-0 in District 16 pool play.

Austin Norton tagged two doubles for Nanticoke, Colby Butczynski each had two hits including a triple and Jared Piontkowski also tripled. Devland Heffron and Adam Eckhart had doubles for Nanticoke, while Collin Brown had two hits. Starting pitcher Jaden Heald picked up the victory by holding Pittston City (0-2) to one hit over three scoreless innings.

A.J. Gorto scored Pittston City’s lone run, and Jacob McCabe drove him in with a single in the fourth inning.

Plains 17, Jenkins Twp. 7

Carl Yastremski went 4 for 4 with three home runs and nine RBI to lead a powerful Plains attack.

Jamie Pahler blasted two home runs among his three hits, and winning pitcher Tanner Smith also had three hits, including a grand slam. Jarrett Wandle added four hits and Josh Rhodes had three for Plains (2-0), which also got two hits and four runs scored from Kyle Costello.

Tyler Mozeleski and Silinskie had home runs for Jenkins Township (1-1).

Pittston Twp. 12,

North Wilkes-Barre 2

Logan Booth and Joe Cencetti each ripped three hits to pace Pittston Township’s four-inning victory. Josh Biera, Steve Sciandra and Brandon Savokinas all had two hits, while Mike Nocito picked up the win on the mound. Pittston Township improved to 1-1 in pool play.

Hayden Krzywicki, Jeremy Hull and Joe Delaney all had singles for North Wilkes-Barre (0-2).

Mountain Top 13,

Evan Materna had a single and a double for Hanover (0-1).

West Side 8, Swoyersville 2

Winning pitcher Jake Schusta had a double among his two hits and drove home two runs to spark West Side (1-1). Schusta struck out six batters over 4 1/3 innings to earn the victory. Tyler Wyberski had a triple and a double and Chris Matello had three singles and drove home a run in West Side’s win.

John Ferris paced Swoyersville (0-2) with a triple and a double, while Matt Zasada had a single and an RBI in the loss.

Northwest 12,

Bob Horlacher 3

Deandre Farmer had a big day at the plate with three hits and four runs scored as Northwest evened its record at 1-1 in pool play.

Winning pitcher Matt Saxe helped his own cause with a home run and a double, while Kristian Burke pounded out two hits, including a double. Walker Yaple added two hits and scored two runs in Northwest’s rebound victory.

Nicholas Budner had a double and scored a run for Bob Horlacher (0-2), which also received two hits, including a double, from Zack Zapitano.

Kingston/Forty Fort 17,

Back Mountain National 7

Brendan Woods went 4 for 4 while Rocco Barchi had a three-run homer and a double among his three hits for Kingston/Forty Fort (2-0). Colin Conway, Rocky DiBernardo, Tommy Federici and Michael Kane had two hits apiece. Michael Kane had three hits and scored two runs in the victory. Federici struck out nine for the win.
