Winning pitcher Tanner Smith pitched four innings for Plains in a 14-10 win over Mountain Top in the District 16 Major Baseball loser’s bracket final on Wednesday.

Jacob Gibbon went 2 for 4 with two doubles and four RBI. Josh Rhodes was 2 for 3 with two RBI. Carl Yastremski and Smith had two hits, including a double.

Mountain Top received a home runs from Stew Caladie and Brian Gavin.

Plains advances to the District 16 final at Nanticoke on Thursday at 6 p.m.



Kingston/Forty Fort 14, West Side 2 (4 inn.)

Kingston/Forty Fort blasted six home runs in the District 31 Major Baseball losers’ bracket final to advance to the championship game. Rocky DiBernardo had two home runs and a single. Michael Kane totaled two roundtrippers. Tommy Federici and Rocco Barchi both added to KFF’s home run count.

Kane picked up the victory with three strikeouts, allowing three hits in four innings.

Christian Reino hit a double for West Side. Matt Giza and Dave White each hit a single.

Kingston/Forty Fort will play at Back Mountain American in the championship game Thursday at 6 p.m.

Kingston/Forty Fort 7,

West Pittston 4

Pitchers Rocco Barchi, Colin Conway, and Tommy Federici all combined for the Kingston/Forty-Fort win on Tuesday. Federici also had a home run and a double. Michael Kane, Rocky DiBernardo and Harry May all had doubles for KKF.

Chase Yochem had two singles for West Pittston.



South Wilkes-Barre 10,

Nanticoke 1

Tanner Nylon had two hits and two RBI for South Wilkes-Barre. Tyler Hoedl, Gavin Flanney and Blake Bynon each produced two RBI. Winning pitcher Talle Swinney allowed two hits.

Joe Bielecky and Kyle Zeller recorded a hit for Nanticoke.



Back Mountain National 10,

Northwest 0

Joe Shiskowski and Mike Sholtis combined for a one hitter for Back Mountain National. Will Youngman was a home run shy of a cycle, and Chris Killian had three hits. Evan Hromisin and Sholtis each chipped in with a triple as part of a two-hit effort.

Joey Noss pitched for Northwest.

Kingston/Forty Fort 21,

Bob Horlacher 2 (4 inn.)

Cole Gorham had two home runs in the Kingston/Forty-Fort offensive explosion in the victory on Tuesday. Ryan Stevens also had four hits, including a home run. Jake Griffin added with three hits, including a triple for KFF.

Jacob McMillan drove in both runs for Bob Horlacher.



Nanticoke 9, Mountain Top 5

Elizabeth Mendryzcki struck out 12 for Nanticoke in a semfinal victory on Tuesday. Amanda Cheslaw (double), Cameron Truak (triple) and catcher Tiffany Brogan (single, threw out two runners) all contributed for Nanticoke, which advanced to Monday’s championship round.

Krista Patula had two singles for Mountain Top while Reece Yenchik, Taylor Yeager and Jessica Koptcho added one apiece.



Kingston/Forty Fort 7,

Greater Wyoming Area 6

Patrick Kasson hit a walkoff two-run home run for Kingston/Forty Fort. Patrick Adamski was the winning pitcher. Liam Gabriel scored twice.

For Greater Wyoming Area, Alex Gonzalez scored two runs. Kyrie Zelienski doubled and scored.



Swoyersville 9, Back Mountain 3

Swoyersville jumped out to score the first nine runs of the game. Jeremy Sabecky crossed the plate three times, and Mike Leonard collected three RBI on three hits. Matt Labashosky picked up the win in 5 2/3 innings.

Scott Bean struck out nine batters in 5 2/3 innings pitched for Back Mountain. Cody Paraschak had a multi-hit performance.

Tunkhannock 9, Greater Pittston 5

Josh McClain produced two hits and two RBI for Tunkhannock. Bobby Gilpin drove in two with a single. Brett Hughes allowed two earned runs for the victory, and McClain notched a save.

Joe Gavenonis sparked the Greater Pittston offense with two runs and two hits. Jeremy Zezza whiffed six in as many innings pitched.
