Sommer Zier-Norris boosts Back Mountain softball team

MOSCOW — Winning pitcher Sommer Zier-Norris tossed a one-hitter with seven strikeouts to lead Back Mountain to a 14-1 victory over Nanticoke in the Section 5 9-10 Softball tournament. She helped her cause for Back Mountain with a 3-for-3 performance at the plate, including a triple.

Back Mountain’s Kaci Hockenberry totaled four hits with a double. Mia Fenske went 3-for-3, and Morgan Sakulich doubled as part of a two-hit effort.

Rebecca Otternsman registered Nanticoke’s lone hit.

Back Mountain will take on North Pocono today in the winner’s bracket final.



Back Mountain National 11

Kingston/Forty Fort 1

Dylan Westley and EJ Williams combined on a two-hitter to pace Back Mountain National. Fred Lombardo, Bob Lugiano and Westley had two hits for Back Mountain National. Lombardo, Williams and J. James added two runs each.

Christian Michak and Nate Mooney had singles for Kingston/Forty Fort. Tyler Gillespie scored the only run.



Dunmore 7, Archbald 1

Dunmore stayed alive for the title by defeating Archbald in the elimination bracket final at Nanticoke Little League.

Dunmore will play undefeated Back Mountain American at 7 p.m. today at Nanticoke. The game will be televised on WQMY. If Dunmore wins, the teams will play again at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday for the championship.
