Brian Lonergan and Joe Earyes, co-chairs of the planning committee for the American Red Cross’ 11th annual Golf Tournament, have announced that former drag racer Joe Amato has agreed to serve as this year’s honorary tournament chairman.
Amato garnered a record five Top Fuel championships. In addition, he racked up a record 52 National Hot Rod Association victories and another five behind the wheel of an alcohol-fueled dragster. In addition to his charitable efforts, Amato is a well-know area businessman and restaurant owner.
The tournament will be held on September 23 at Glenmaura National Golf Club. The format will be modified captain and crew. Registration will begin at 11 a.m. with lunch shortly after and a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. Dinner and awards ceremony will begin at 6 p.m.
The cost per golfer is $300. Cocktail hour/dinner-only reservations are also available.
All proceeds of the golf tournament benefit the American Red Cross Lackawanna County Chapter and the many communities it serves.
