The North East Pennsylvania (NEPA) Miners 7-1 EFL (8-2 overall) and the Syracuse Shock (7-2) will face off for the third time 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5 at Scranton Memorial Stadium.
The difference this time is the season is on the line as the winner will play in the Empire Football League Championship game with the losers season ending. The Miners came from behind August 3 in Scranton to win 22-20 outlasting Syracuse, but the Shock won a physical battle 28-20 September 14 in Syracuse.
A 30-0 regular season season win versus the Glens Falls Green Jackets earned the Miners a first-round playoff bye while the Syracuse hosted the Watertown Red & Black winning 16-10 behind their strong run game and another solid defensive effort. The winner of the Miners versus Shock will play the winner of the Plattsburgh North Stars and Glens Falls Green Jackets with the highest seed hosting the Empire Football League Championship game.
A NEPA Miners win would mean a semi-professional championship game at Scranton Memorial Stadium, the first since the 2000 Scranton Eagles. The winner of the Empire Football League will get an invitation to play the winner of the New England Football League November 2 at East Field in Glens Falls, New York.
