The Northeastern Region Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, sponsored by the
Luzerne County Chapter, has announced that Morlyn Leppert will be the ticket
chairperson and Bill DeAngelo will be the dinner chairperson for the upcoming
induction dinner.
   
The dinner will be held Sunday, Oct. 27, at Genetti Hotel & Convention
Center in Wilkes-Barre starting at 3 p.m. with a cocktail hour followed by
dinner and the induction ceremonies. Twenty-two new members will be inducted
at the hall’s 12th annual event. The hall covers 12 counties.
    Entering the hall this year are David McArt, Edward Branish, Thomas
Carlyon, Jack Childs, James Consagra, Joseph Hurley, Michael Kaye, Ray
Kressler, Deanna Kyle-Klingman, David Linkchorst, James Manley, Patricia
Martin, Richard Matz, Jackie McGlynn, Glenn Moskosky, Lawrence Pace, Leonard
Pestoni, John Petercuskie, Ronald Robacker, Edward Shaw, Martin Tullai and
Jerry Tomasetti.
   
Leppert attended Hughestown grade and high schools. He played varsity
basketball in the mid-1920s, and became known for his uncanny ability to hit
the long shot from beyond the foul line. He played semi-pro ball for the
Hughestown Boosters. Leppert was the president of the Hughestown Hose Company,
a Justice of the Peace and Police Magistrate for several years, a Hughestown
Borough Council member and a member of the board of trustees of Retreat State
Hospital. He has been the hall’s secretary for nearly seven years.
   
DeAngelo is a former amateur and professional boxer. He began his amateur
career at age 15 while still working in the coal mines in Wilkes-Barre. He
boxed at many local venues, including the 109th Field Artillary Armory in
Wilkes-Barre and the Scranton CYC. DeAngelo, a Centermoreland native, turned
pro at 19 and compiled a record of 44-6. One of his bouts was against
middleweight champion Sugar Ray Robinson. He is a member of Holy Rosary
Church, an officer in the Sons of Italy of America Lodge 1397, and a member of
the Italian-American Veterans Post 1.
   
Tickets are $25 a person and are available from Leppert, DeAngelo, hall
president Joe DiSimone, the inductees or any of the following screening

Richard Chulada, Billy DeAngelo, Dr. Tom Finan, Pat Garramone, Mickey Gorham,
