BUFFALO, N.Y. — It was not a good RailRiders debut for Chris Leroux.

The right-hander, who got his first start of the season for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre lasted only 2 1/3 innings allowing five runs on seven hits as Buffalo defeated SWB, 8-2 on Wednesday night at Coca-Cola Field.

The Bisons picked up a run in the bottom of the first on an RBI-groundout to go up 1-0. Then after Leroux got out of the second inning without allowing any runs, Buffalo erupted for four more in the third to chase Leroux and take a 5-0 lead. Consecutive batters Steve Tolleson and Juan Francisco had run-producing extra-base hits on Tolleson’s triple and Francisco’s double. Matt Tuiasosopo and Kevin Pillar also added RBI hits in the frame for the Bisons.

Yoshinori Tateyama took over on the mound for the RailRiders and put an end to the scoring for a little bit as he pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings with four strikeouts.

The RailRiders’ offense certainly had opportunities, but couldn’t quite solve Buffalo starter Marcus Stroman. SWB had five hits against the righty in his 5 1/3 innings. In the fourth inning, the first two RailRiders reached base, but were stranded there. After Stroman was lifted in the sixth, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre loaded the bases with one out in the seventh inning. But Jose Pirela popped out and Zoilo Almonte flied out to end the threat.

Meanwhile, Buffalo scored added another run in the sixth on the second run-scoring hit by Francisco, and two more in the seventh to take an 8-0 lead.

The RailRiders finally got on the board in the eighth on RBI-singles from Corban Joseph and Adonis Garcia to cut the deficit to 8-2.

On the night, SWB banged out 11 hits, but left 10 runners on base and was 2 for 10 with runners in scoring position. On Buffalo’s side, the Bisons had 13 hits, were 6 for 15 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.

The series continues today when the teams play a doubleheader starting at 12:05 p.m. Brian Gordon (1-1, 3.60) and Chase Whitley (0-1, 7.71) take the mound as starters for SWB today, while Ricky Romero (0-0, 6.75) and Kyle Drabek (1-0, 5.40) are set to start for Buffalo.
