Attempting to tie the franchise record for largest comeback victory, the RailRiders fell short losing 13-9 after overcoming an eight-run deficit on Thursday night at PNC Field.
With the loss, SWB falls under .500 at 29-30 and has lost three straight to start the homestand. The Tides won their sixth in a row.
RailRiders at the plate: They scored five runs or more for the 11th straight game, a feat that has never been accomplished before since the franchise became affiliated with the Yankees. They also banged out 15 hits with Zoilo Almonte, Zelous Wheeler and Jose Pirela each having three hits. Almonte had a three-run homer. By going 2 for 5 Russ Canzler extended his hitting streak to 10 games.
RailRiders on the mound: Shane Greene had a lackluster performance allowing eight runs in the first two innings on nine hits, but was taken off the hook by a comeback. Francisco Rondon and Preston Claiborne each tossed two scoreless frames. Pat Venditte threw a perfect eighth, but struggled in the ninth and allowed five runs. He had to be relieved by Russ Canzler, who got the last two outs of the ninth without allowing anyone to reach base.
Riding the Rails: Right-hander Preston Claiborne rejoined the club on Thursday after being optioned from New York on Wednesday. In a move dealing with New York, Carlos Beltran was activated from the disabled list, while Scott Sizemore was designated for assignment and optioned to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
