TOLEDO, Ohio — The losing streak is finally over.

Entering Monday’s game at Toledo on a season-high five-game losing streak, the RailRiders snapped the skid at Fifth Third Field with a 4-2 win over the Mud Hens.

The victory was well-earned as Preston Claiborne got out of a two-on, no-out jam in the bottom of the ninth to close it out.

The Mud Hens threatened in the ninth when the first two batters reached via single against Claiborne. A sacrifice moved the runners to second and third before Claiborne struck out Danny Worth looking and got Ezequiel Carrera to fly out to end the game.

The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre offense, pounded out 11 hits, but just one extra-base hit when Zoilo Almonte (2-for-4) doubled; he also extended his hitting streak to 13 games. The offense also struggled at times against Toledo starter Drew VerHagen, who retired 13 in a row after Kyle Roller and Zelous Wheeler singled to lead off the third until Jose Pirela singled with one out in the seventh.

After the RailRiders took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a run-scoring groundout from Scott Sizemore, Toledo took a 2-1 advantage in the bottom of the frame when Tyler Collins whacked a two-run homer.

But that lead was short-lived as well because the RailRiders scored three in the next half inning on RBI-singles by Antoan Richardson, Corban Joseph and Zoilo Almonte.

After giving up the homer to Collins, SWB starter Shane Greene (4-2) settled down only allowing one more hit for the rest of his outing, which lasted six innings. It was the third time this season the right-hander tossed at least six innings for the RailRiders in 10 starts.

Game 2 of the four-game series with the Mud Hens in Ohio is tonight at 7 with RailRiders righty Jeremy Bleich (0-1, 6.00) squaring off against Toledo lefty Robbie Ray (3-2, 2.21).
