ROCHESTER, N.Y. — It was less than a week ago when the RailRiders tagged Rochester righty Tyler Duffey for seven runs in a victory at PNC Field.

In that same game Scranton/Wilkes-Barre right-hander Kyle Davies pitched one of his best games of the season to pick up his first win in Moosic of the season.

On Wednesday night at Frontier Field, the roles were reversed.

The Red Wings knocked Davies around for six runs in just four innings, while Duffey went eight shutout innings, striking out nine to lead Rochester to a 7-1 win over the RailRiders.

The loss for the red-hot RailRiders was just their third in the last 15 games with all three coming at the hands of Rochester. The second-place Red Wings move to within 3.5 games of first-place SWB.

Davies, who gave up two runs in 6 1/3 innings in his last outing against Rochester, started on the right track with three scoreless innings. In the fourth though, Rochester erupted for six runs as it sent 10 batters to the plate.

After Oswaldo Arcia doubled in the first run, Davies got the next two batters out and was almost out of the inning getting two strikes on Argenis Diaz, who singled in Arcia. Jose Martinez, Danny Santana, James Beresford and Eric Fryer all added run-scoring singles to give the Red Wings a 6-0 lead.

That’s all Duffey needed as he was on cruise control only giving up six hits. The only one that was not a single was a double by Ben Gamel in the top of the eighth.

SWB avoided being shut out for the first time on the road this season, plating its only run in the top of the ninth off Red Wings closer Caleb Thielbar when Cole Figueroa singled in Ramon Flores.

The teams wrap up playing each other nine times in 12 games, including seven straight, tonight at 7:05 with RailRiders righty Esmil Rogers (1-1, 6.27) taking the mound against Rochester’s lefty Jason Wheeler (1-5, 6.00).
