How do you stop a streaking team? Bryan Mitchell found the simple answer: don’t let runners reach base. Mitchell pitched a gem through seven innings Sunday, limiting Pawtucket to three hits without a walk. The RailRiders offense produced just enough to snap Pawtucket’s franchise-record 11-game winning streak with a 3-1 victory before a delighted summer afternoon crowd of nearly 6,000.

RailRiders at the plate: Adonis Garcia slammed a double for the game’s only extra-base hit, added a second hit with a single to right field and also reached base on an error. Corban Joseph lined a single and wound up scoring the game’s first run. Jose Pirela drove him in with a run-scoring single. Zoilo Almonte drew two walks, one with the bases loaded to force in the second RailRiders run and the other which allowed him to score the third run. Taylor Dugas was 1 for 1 with a single, a sacrifice bunt and a walk that allowed him to score a run.

RailRiders on the mound: RailRiders starter Bryan Mitchell was the story of the day, working a spectacular game with a three-hit shutout through his seven innings while allowing no walks and finishing with six strikeouts. Tyler Webb followed up by working a perfect eighth inning and picking up a strikeout.

Riding the Rails: Following Saturday night’s rough three-run sixth inning where he allowed a triple and home run in Pawtucket’s game-winning rally, pitcher Danny Burawa was transferred from the RailRiders to Double-A Trenton. To replace him, righthanded pitcher Diego Moreno was promoted from Trenton to the RailRiders.
