I had the distinct privilege on July 9 of seeing the dress rehearsal for “South Pacific” at the Music Box Dinner Playhouse in Swoyersville. The Music Box Players instituted a program of free theater for special needs people, young and old.

The theater was packed even though it was a very rainy evening. When the show started, everyone had all eyes on the cast. The attention of everyone there was almost frozen in time because of the sincere involvement of the cast communicating to its special needs audience. The audience laughed, clapped, listened, sang and absorbed this wonderful show.

I thank the cast, crew and community advisors for this invite to these special shows.

Truly, music fills the soul, and all the special needs attendees went home singing those magical “South Pacific” songs.

The next show will be “Footloose” on Sept. 3. To reserve tickets to this show for special needs people and their caregivers, call the theater at 570-283-2195 or visit its website at www.musicbox.org.
