What would you do if you knew you could not fail?

That is a question that my family has instilled in me since I was a young girl. I was taught that I have to work for what I want, and to try my best in every endeavor that I confront. I was taught that if I fall short, the worst people could say is that I got caught trying.

I will never be the candidate who presents a platform riddled with barely comprehensible service-cutting rhetoric in an effort to gain your vote.

I will never be the candidate who makes promises to you that cannot be fulfilled.

I will be the councilwoman who you can come to with your concerns, no matter how big or small they may seem.

I will be the councilwoman who makes a concerted effort to speak to all of my constituents, through town hall meetings, neighborhood cleanups and by simply walking around my community and speaking with my neighbors.

I will introduce legislation to combat the major issues that our city is facing, such as blight and crime. I will look at other mid-sized cities that were successful in combating these problems and draw upon their legislation for inspiration.

I will be the councilwoman who is committed to community involvement. I will bring back the Junior City Council and encourage resident participation through social media and modern technology. I will make you proud to call the city of Wilkes-Barre home.

I will be the councilwoman who will never give up and who will fight for the best interests of the residents, not only of my district, but for all of Wilkes-Barre.

I humbly ask for your vote for Wilkes-Barre City Council, District C, on Nov. 3.

Beth Gilbert
