I have a suggestion to improve our area, as I would like to get our young people more involved in public events.

As a matter of fact, I am preparing a lecture for Community Day at one of our local schools. I will stress that being involved with the community is an interactive process as we communicate and learn from each other.

I will ask the students to learn what is going on in their area by reading the newspaper, and communicating with the community by writing letters to the editor and commenting on newspaper articles. Our young people will learn what concerns and interests them and how to get involved in the issues that are most important to them.

I am requesting that the Times Leader send a reporter to Community Day to show these young people how important they are to us, and to explain how to use the newspaper so our young people can become informed citizens who contribute to our community.
