Leadership is not an easy path to walk. Sometimes it’s rewarding; sometimes it is frustrating. Sometimes the problems and issues facing leaders are quite easy to resolve, and sometimes they are difficult to overcome.

When we look at prior great leaders, they overcame insurmountable odds. George Washington led 13 colonies to defeat the British military weight. Abraham Lincoln led throughout the Civil War to keep the nation unified. Franklin Roosevelt and Winston Churchill persevered against an evil Nazi reign that wanted to usher in a new world order with an Aryan race.

We in Luzerne County are trying to change direction from the past by using a relatively new form of government. It will take time to get our financial house in order, but I know we can accomplish this task.

The people of the county elected and are looking to their council members.

Today, Americans need, on all levels of government, leaders who can compromise when it’s available and respect each other as leaders. We do not need immature acts such as walking away because the vote did not go our way. We do not need a “kicking the can down the road” mentality. This accomplishes nothing, and it is frustrating and futile.

Save your emotions for the issues, not for your political colleagues. Stand up for what you think is right, but don’t let it be a blockade for ideas from others who think differently.

I want to encourage our county leaders.

We know you can accomplish these tasks set before you. Please let the pettiness go. And please stop shooting each other in the foot, because we will not go anywhere.
