Paul Krugman’s commentary “Shame on GOP apologists” (Aug. 8) depicts Donald Trump’s supporters as “despicable,” but fails to acknowledge his own candidate’s serious deficiencies. Trump would not be a viable contender had the Democratic National Committee nominated a pro-middle class centrist. They nominated instead an individual who:

• May have avoided prosecution for what the FBI called “extreme carelessness” with classified information only because of who she is and perhaps because of her husband’s “chance” meeting with the attorney general. It was reported that Iran executed Shahram Amiri, a nuclear scientist who was mentioned on Clinton’s insecure email server.

• Defines as her enemies the 5 million law-abiding members of the National Rifle Association, whose votes she therefore does not want or expect.

· Is in the pocket of Wall Street special interests and George Soros. Compare bundled campaign contributions for Clinton and Trump at Opensecrets.org.

• Says survivors of sexual assaults have a right to be believed, unless of course her husband is the subject of accusations.

• Endorses Al Sharpton, and appears at his National Action Network. .

The DNC:

• Endorses Black Lives Matter despite its violence against police, obstruction of highways and interference with emergency vehicles.

• Sells access to Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton to donors who can put up six-figure contributions.

• Welcomes the display of a Palestinian flag in its convention.

• Worked actively to deny the nomination to Bernie Sanders.

President Obama said that Donald Trump is not qualified to be president, but he also said in 2008 that Hillary Clinton will say anything to get elected but change nothing. All these factors support a vote not for Trump, but against Clinton and the DNC.
