Social Security provides income to disabled and retired workers and their families, as well as to the needy.

Medicare pays hospital and medical bills for senior citizens. Medicaid pays for hospital costs, medical bills and nursing care for low-income individuals. CHIP pays for the health care of children, and the Affordable Care Act assists workers in paying for their health-insurance coverage.

What do all of these federal programs have in common?

They became law when there was a Democratic president in the White House; and Republicans, in general, would dearly love today to either eliminate or privatize (profitize) these beneficial social programs that protect millions of Americans.

If you are a middle-class or low-income American, voting for U.S. Rep. Lou Barletta, U.S. Rep. Tom Marino, U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey or presidential candidate Donald Trump would be just like shooting yourself in the foot.
