Leading up to the primary election, political yard signs are popping up like killer weeds in a garden.

It would be a good idea for voters, especially homeowners who wish to hold on to their homes, to do everything they can to uncover the real motives of those running. Asking seems to be the logical method, but voters should be very careful when using this method.

Guilt by association could be a method used by those who wish to keep a distance from direct contact. For example, homeowners should avoid voting for any school board candidate whose sign appears in any school district employee’s yard or the yards of a school district employee’s family members.

Likewise, voters should avoid supporting any county council candidate whose yard sign pops up in any county employee’s yard or the yards of a county employee’s families.

Generally speaking, any candidate who is supported by any government union is not a friend to the taxpayer at large. Getting rid of these weeds in the primary is the best way to increase the chance that in the general election homeowners and people employed in the private sector will get proper, fiscally responsible representation.
