Every year 100,000 American horses are inhumanely trucked long distances across our borders without food, water or rest and are slaughtered.

The meat is shipped to other countries for human consumption. Due to the biology and nature of horses, these animals often sustain repeated blows or remain conscious during the killing process. Young, old, wild horses, burros and even ponies are inhumanely killed.

The Safe Act would end this cruel practice by prohibiting the slaughter of horses for human consumption in the U.S., preventing horse slaughter plants from opening in the U.S., stopping the export of horses for slaughter and protecting the public from consuming toxic horse meat.

Please call or write to your U.S. representative and your two U.S. senators and ask them to co-sponsor and push for the passage of the Safeguard American Food Exports Act. If you don’t know who your members of Congress are, call the Capitol switchboard at 202-224-3121.

We owe it to horses to protect them from abuse. Until a federal ban is in place, no horse is safe.
