WILKES-BARRE — Despite Mayor Tom Leighton’s administration emphasizing the Wilkes-Barre City Employees Federal Credit Union is not affiliated with city government, its board of directors consists of current, retired and relatives of city employees.The attorney for the credit union, located on the first floor of City Hall, said board members are elected to three-year terms. Nominations for open positions are provided by any of the 2,285 credit union members which are voted upon by the board at its annual meeting held the first Saturday every March, said credit union attorney Dominic P. Pannunzio.


Luzerne County Council advances amendment allowing backyard chickens

A Luzerne County Council majority voted Tuesday to advance a proposed zoning amendment allowing residential property owners to keep up to four backyard chickens.Council must obtain feedback from the county Planning Commission but is free to accept or reject the commission’s recommendation.Five council members did not support proceeding: Edward Brominski, Kathy Dobash, Linda McClosky Houck, Eileen Sorokas and Rick Morelli.
