All District 16 and District 31 Little League Major Baseball games were postponed Tuesday due to rain and moved to Saturday.

Since Saturday is the Fourth of July, the games will be played in the morning. Here is the revised schedule for Saturday:

• At Duryea Little League: Pittston City vs. Plains, 9:30 a.m.; Avoca/Dupont vs. Jenkins/Duryea, 11:30 a.m.

• At South Wilkes-Barre Little League: Pittston Twp. vs. Mountaintop, 9:30 a.m.; North Wilkes-Barre vs. South Wilkes-Barre, 11:30 a.m.

• At Back Mountain Little League: Swoyersville vs. Back Mountain American, 9:30 a.m.; Northwest vs. Back Mountain National, 11:30 a.m.

• At Kingston/Forty Fort Little League: West Side vs. Wyoming/West Wyoming, 9:30 a.m.; West Pittston vs. Kingston/Forty Fort, 11:30 a.m.

There was hope that the schedule could be played Tuesday to avoid another round of postponements, but heavy rain about 4 p.m. made it impossible to get the games in.

District softball and Senior Baseball were also postponed.

DISTRICT 31

BIG LEAGUE BASEBALL

Eric Gurzynski threw a one-hitter and struck out seven as Northwest defeated Swoyersville on Monday in the final game of a best-of-three series to win the championship.

Northwest advances to the state tournament July 3-7 at Mansfield University.

Tyler Harrison had a big day at the plate, going 2 for 3 with a homer and three RBI. Tyler Kolb had two hits and two RBI and scored twice. Hunter Nice had two hits and four RBI. Tyler Long added two hits.

DISTRICT 16

SENIOR BASEBALL

Hanover 14, Pittson Area 3

In a game played Monday, Kevin Rimmer and Mike Piscotty were both strong on the mound in a five inning victory.

Rimmer, Piscotty, Chad Wasickanin, Austin Gately and Jordan Flaim had two hits apiece for Hanover.

DISTRICT 31

JUNIOR SOFTBALL

Northwest Area 4,

Back Mountain 1

In a game played Monday, Nikki Cragle went 3-for-4 with a double and twin sister Courtney Cragle finished 2-for-4 in the win. Aleigha Parnell struck out four and benefited from strong defense behind her.

Peyton Ross doubled for Back Mountain. The two teams meet at 6 p.m. today for the championship.

LEGION BASEBALL

Back Mountain 0

In a game played Monday, Connor Hulslander threw a three-hit shutout and struck out seven while adding a triple and two RBI at the plate. Lane Ceccarelli had two hits and two RBI while Sean Soltysiak, Brett Soltysiak and Bobby Gilpin all doubled.

Charles Giacometti, Cahil Carey and Jordan McCrum each singled for Back Mountain.

COLLEGES

MU swimmers honored

Misericordia’s men’s and women’s swim teams have earned Scholar All-America Team status by the College Swimming Coach’s Association of America (CSCAA).

The women ranked 26th among Division III schools with a 3.54 team grade-point average while the men’s squad was tied for 62nd with a 3.15 GPA.
