Brigid Wood had two goals, Savannah Robinson had a goal and two assists and Krya Wozniak and Katie Anderson tallied a goal each as Coughlin shut out Dallas 5-0 on Friday in WVC field hockey play.

M’Kensie Lee and Megan Novak split time in net for the Crusaders, making a combined five saves.

Wyoming Area 7, Nanticoke 0

Bree Bednarski tallied five goals, Jillian Spak had two of her own and both Madison Mulhern and Emilie Wanko recorded two assists as Wyoming Area cruised past Nanticoke Area. The Warriors recorded 23 shots on goal during the game.

Nanticoke Area goalie Janna Trotter made 17 saves during the game.

Tunkhannock 1, Lackawanna Trail 0

Jen Buford scored the only goal of the contest with just 2:30 left in the first half to push Tunkhannock past Lackawanna Trail. Tigers goalie Mary Sickler made seven saves during the game.

Wyoming Seminary 5,

Wyoming Area 0

Jacqui Meuser, Megan Obeid and Abby Capin defeated their opponents in singles play and both doubles teams picked up victories for the Blue Knights.

Pittston Area 3, Coughlin 2

The teams of Taryn Whitman, Emi Patel and Madison Stanton, Breanna Yashkus picked up wins and Jess Borget grabbed a win in singles action as Pittston Area edged Coughlin.

Diana Rodriguez and Kira Meager got the only wins of the night for the Crusaders.

MMI Prep 3, Crestwood 2

MMI Prep swept all three singles matches thanks to wins from Jessica Smith, Libby Pinto and Cate Matyas as they took down Crestwood.

The doubles teams of Emily Shiplett, Morgan Novosel and Raegan Distasio, Amanda Petroski got wins for Crestwood.

Tunkhannock 4,

Wyoming Valley West 1

Brianna Grey and Kaitlyn Markovitz grabbed wins in singles play and the doubles tandems of Miranda Donovan, Autumn Grey and Emily Chesner, Stephanie Seward got wins as Tunkhannock topped Wyoming Valley West.

Bryden Peter had the only win of the night for the Spartans.

Crestwood 8,

Hanover Area 1

Despite Hanover Area scoring first, Crestwood would go on to score eight unanswered goals to get the win over the Hawkeyes. Jenny Katulka netted two goals while Bella Termini and Melissa Hererra had a goal and an assist each in the win.

Nadia Lamoreux scored the lone goal of the night for Hanover.

Lake-Lehman 7,

Wyoming Area 1

Julia Hutsko scored two goals and Mackenzie Love scored a goal and recored three assists as Lake-Lehman topped Wyoming Area. The Black Knights out shot their opponents 21-4 in the game.

Alee Petit scored the only goal of the night for Wyoming Area off an assist from Erica Gallagher.

BOYS SOCCER

Meyers 8, MMI Prep 0

Matt Manfre found the back of the net four times and David Nargoski helped with two more goals as they pushed Meyers past MMI Prep. Gino Setta and Kyle Ostrowski had the other two goals for the Mohawks.

Meyers out shot their opponents 17-5 and David Torres and Carlos Lopez, goaltenders for the Mohawks, made a combine five saves in the win.

Crestwood 8,

Hanover Area 0

RJ Kresge recorded a hat trick and an assist while Jason Klusewitz scored another two to help lead Crestwood over Hanover Area on the road. Lance Lysiak, Comet goalkeeper, made five saves to secure the shut out.

Hanover Area goaltender Mark Kocher made 17 saves on Crestwood’s 25 shots.

Lake-Lehman 2,

Wyoming Area 1

Sam Saxe and Nick Wnuk scored a goal apiece in the first half which would prove to be enough as Lake-Lehman held on to defeat Wyoming Area.

David Klaproth, Wyoming Area’s goalie, took a penalty shot in the second half and scored the only goal of the night for the Warriors.

Hazleton Area 178

The Spartans’ Tyler Yankosky and the Cougars’ Josh Provost both shot 40 to share medalist honors in Valley West’s win at Irem Country Club (par 36).

Rob Lane (41), David McCue (44) and Matt Evans (46) scored for the Spartans while Frank Seratch (42), Geran Triano (46) Jordan Pick (50) scored for the Cougars.

Coughlin 164, Dallas 169

Ryan Keyes shot a 39 to claim medalist honors and lead Coughlin to victory over Dallas at the Wilkes-Barre Municipal Golf Course (par 36). Billy Mills shot a 40, Collin Krokos tallied a 41 and Josh Gartley finished with a 44 for the Crusaders.

Mason Gattuso carded a 40 to lead the Mountaineers. Also scoring for Dallas were: Colin Buwanko (42), Ethan Zawatski (43) and Alexis Wyandt (44).

Tunkhannock 164,Wyoming Area 170

Tyler Faux shot an even par (37) as he claimed medalist honors and led Tunkhannock to a four-stroke victory over Wyoming Area. The Warriors also used scores from Brett Soltysiak (40), Luke Straley (41) and Alex Frear (46).

Nik Athmann ended with a 40, Anthony Shaver carded a 42, Ryan Wrubel shot a 43 and MAdeline Wharton finished the day with a 45 for Wyoming Area.

VOLLEYBALL

Wilkes 3, Misericordia 0

Wilkes claimed some revenge ousting Misericordia in three sets by scores of 25-23, 25-18 and 25-13.

Madison Scarfaro led the attack with a season-high 10 kills while Abby Sanders and Ellen Mook each contributed six kills as Wilkes posted 34 team kills in the victory. Megan Powers led the passing game with 25 assists and Danica Benson held the backline with 17 digs.

Alfred State 3, Wilkes 2

Alfred State took a 3-1 win as the Lady Colonels went all five sets falling in the fifth and deciding set 15-12 after battling back from down 2-0 early in the match.

Ally Paskas led Wilkes on the offensive against Alfred finishing with 10 kills and 15 digs. Sanders added nine kills while Kayley Schinski followed with eight kills and one solo block. Powers paced the passing game with 33 assists.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

Wilkes 9, Arcadia 0

The Wilkes University women’s tennis team scored a 9-0 victory over visiting Arcadia University in a non-conference dual match. Wilkes improves to a perfect 3-0 on the season following the win.

After taking a 3-0 lead sweeping all three doubles matches, the Lady Colonels claimed five 6-0, 6-0 singles wins and allowed just two games in its last singles victory to secure the match advantage. Kendra Croker, Taylor Hoffmann, Julia Vasarkovy, Madison Salmon, Erin Volutza and Julia Baranov all recorded singles wins for Wilkes

Wilkes 9, Arcadia 0

Wilkes University men’s tennis team rolled to a 9-0 victory over visiting Arcadia University Friday afternoon in a dual match. Wilkes improves to 4-0 following the home non-league victory.

After Wilkes jumped out to a 3-0 lead taking all three doubles matches, all six Colonels swept their singles matches in straight sets including wins from Courtney Murphy, Max Appello, Adam Lefkandinos, Troy Haas, Michael Kranz and Artyom Nabokin.
